Even-Odd Scheme: Odd or Even Way of Controlling Pollution?

This is a much-discussed topic in India right now, that how and in which manner this would be implemented. Before I opine on the topic, let me introduce you what in actual this Odd-even scheme all about.

This is part of a slew of measures Delhi government has taken recently. In this scheme, odd-even number plates will ply on the roads of Delhi on date-wise basis (such that,on odd dates odd number-plate vehicle will ply and on even date, even number-plate will ply on the roads of Delhi). This scheme is applicable for four-whellers. Ristriction will be effecctive between 8 am to 8 p.m for all the vehicles (even for the vehicles coming from  outside of Delhi). First phase of the trial is from 1 january to 15 january, and on the basis  of the result further action will be taken by the Delhi  government.

Such types of measures have been applied in Paris, Singapore,Bagota,Beijing etc, albeit on temporary basis and mixed results has been obtained. However, in cases of Delhi (Ranked one of the most polluted cities in the world by W.H.O) it is a great idea to apply such measures.

I think this is an unprecedented step taken by the government to control pollution because vehicle emission is one of the major contributors of air pollution. Though, it may not be the best solution  but definitely a right step in right direction. It's not like that the government has taken only this step to curb pollution but various other holistic measures have been taken like grass planting on side kerbs and central verges of all the arterial roads to remove the dust, vacuum cleaning on all PWD roads( dust is also one of the major contributor to the pollutants that choke Delhi). Many argue this odd-even scheme will not work but what I think is, at least the government is concerned about the killing air pollution of Delhi which other governments didn't gave a penny about it.

So, thumbs up for AAP. At least they are trying to mend the situation. And finally, it's on you to decide whether this scheme is odd or even?
